Peptides in skin and collagen research
Why copper peptides like GHK-Cu are a focus of cosmetic and dermal science.
Skin research is one of the most active areas of peptide science, largely because the skin’s structure depends on proteins such as collagen and elastin.
Signal peptides
Some peptides appear to act as signals that influence how skin cells (fibroblasts) produce collagen. GHK-Cu, a copper-binding tripeptide, is among the most studied, with research in cell cultures and wound-healing models.
How it is studied
Most of this research is done in cell culture, in skin-tissue models and in animal wound models. Findings in these systems do not automatically translate to people, which is why results are reported as preclinical.
